Pet of the Week - Momma

Momma is a big tabby gal who got her name because she helped raise about three litters of kittens in our shelter.  She is about 2-3 years old, very sweet but not necessarily a lap cat.  Because Momma has been with us far too long, we will adopt her to a good home for a ‘donation.’  Our normal adoption fee for dogs is $100 for dogs & we have two very special adoption pricing options for our cats right now, all of which completely covers the mandatory spay or neuter, basic immunizations, de-worming, microchip, heartworm check for dogs, rabies vaccination if old enough, and a free health exam with your veterinarian – call us about our special cat pricing!.

Street Dance and Museum

Street Dance and Museum

The 16th Annual Sweet Summer Night Street Dance happens in Downtown Tallassee on July 16th.  The Talisi Historical Preservation Society sponsors the street dance as its largest annual fund raiser.  The funds raised are devoted totally to preserving the history of Tallassee.  The event was first proposed by Fred Randal Hughey of WACQ Radio, and has been a great success for 15 consecutive years!  Let’s make this one the best ever!

The main historical project at the present time is preservation of the Tallassee Armory (the 1844 Mill) and the creation of a museum in that building.  The building was constructed in 1844 for use as a textile mill.  It was the second textile mill constructed in Alabama.  During the Civil War, it was converted to an Armory for the manufacture of carbines, and is the only surviving Armory of the Confederacy.
